Prepare for Increase
We are currently living in a cultural environment of decrease. Supply lines are interrupted. Inflation has soared to a new high. Routines that we took for granted have been severed. Institutions that we thought might have our best interest in mind have now shattered our expectations. As the world is adjusting to higher prices in everyday goods, can we prepare for an increase in the manifestation of the Kingdom of God? The theme for the DOVE International conference this year is “Preparing for Increase.” We all like the increase! Except for bills and groceries and gas. We normally like to see our income increase and our expenses decrease. I agree. The conference theme of preparing for an increase is geared towards the Kingdom of God. How do we prepare for an increase in the Kingdom of God? The passage used at the conference was Isaiah 62:10. I want to include a few extra verses. Isaiah 62:10-12 reads: 10 Go through, go through the gates; prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway; clear it of stones; lift up a signal over the peoples.11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.” 12 And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord, and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken. (EVS) In examining this verse, “to go through the gates” means to go out from where you are at. Go out from the place you are; the room, house, building, city. The reason you are going out is to prepare to bring others in. The next phrase is; “to build up the highway.” Highways get eroded and sometimes filled with potholes. The foundations need to be constantly repaired so others can come in smoothly. Then it says, “clear the stones or remove the stones.” Stones here are obstacles that cause distraction or even become an offense. We must continually ask if we have placed “stones” in the way of people coming to Jesus that we need to remove. Many times we are just unaware that we put obstacles in people's paths until pointed out by someone. We must remain open. Verse 10 closes with “raise a banner for all peoples!” Celebrate who the Lord brings and keep lifting Jesus as the one we worship. Verses 11 and 12 remind us that our salvation is from the Lord. When we receive Jesus as our savior we are rewarded and brokenness the we brought in is reconciled and redeemed through his blood. Hallelujah! Finally, when people understand their redemption in Christ, it’s a “sought-after place.” If the church is not “sought after” them maybe, we have not celebrated our redemption publically enough. Just a thought. Over the next 6 months, I plan to bring a series of messages relating to “Preparing for Increase.” Specifically, I’ll be speaking on prayer, evangelism, discipleship, generosity, and margin. Are you ready for an increase? If not, let’s tune our hearts to His and get in position for more. |
