As I stated last Sunday, the resurrection is the fulcrum of our faith. It ultimately proved Jesus was and is the Saviour of the world. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we now stand secure that not only Satan’s deceptions have been exposed (Colossians 2:14-15), but also death has been defeated (I Corinthians 15:55-57). Even though the earthly body we inherited from Adam will one day be replaced, for the believer in Jesus, there is no longer any separation between this life and the next. Pauls says, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). 

As I mentioned Sunday, there are four benefits given to us as believers because Jesus has been resurrected. We become a new creation, scriptures are reinterpreted, a new exodus is in progress, and Jesus is now Lord of the world. This Sunday I plan to dive into this new creation we become. 

I was curious about how many inventions have been patented. When you think of a patent, you surmise something new has been created. What I discovered is that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued its 11 millionth patent on May 11, 2021. That’s a lot of “new creations.” America’s first patent was issued in July of 1790, to an inventor and Philadelphia-based businessman Samuel Hopkins, who developed an improved method of making potash and pearl ash. Potash is used in fertilizer. Pearl ash is a more refined material used in glassmaking and to also make saltpeter for gunpowder. From there, the pace of patenting accelerated, with 100,000 patents issued by early 1870 and the 1 millionth issued in 1911. Since 2010, the USPTO has issued an average of over 300,000 new patents annually, as inventors and firms around the world have looked to the United States as the premier global patent location.

Being created in the image of God placed the “desire to create” into our human DNA. How many discussions are held around the world in multi-locations among industries and organizations about “how to improve things.”  We are born to create after our creator. 

The prophets in the Old Testament spoke about a new thing coming. Isaiah 43:18-19 reads, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.  Ezekiel also prophecies, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws” (Ezekiel 36:26-27). 

This new creation spoken in the Old Testament was actualized in the New Testament. II Corinthians 5:17 states, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! This coming Sunday, I plan to explain this incredible new creation given to us by Christ Jesus. You won’t want to miss this important and exciting message. Enjoy your week!
