Your Guide to What's Happening at Crossroads

A Weekend To Remember

A Weekend To Remember

“The LORD spoke further to Moses, saying, ‘Make yourself two trumpets of silver, of hammered work you shall make them; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for having the camps set out.'” Numbers 10:1-2

I wonder what went through the people’s minds when they heard the two trumpet blasts from the priest to gather as a whole community? Was it an “oh yeah” or an “oh no” feeling? God called his people together to instruct them, correct them, and give them marching orders. When the trumpets blasted were they were excited to gather and find out “where to next?” Or, was it a drag for them to hear the trumpets, thinking “here we go again?” I’m not sure what their attitude was, but I’m sure it was a mix of both good and bad - depending on what they perceived God had in mind to share with the whole community.

This past weekend was incredibly good as we called the family together! From the 23 hours of prayer on Friday at 10 AM until Saturday at 9 AM, to Sunday’s message on First Fruits, and then later in the evening having our Family meeting, all three all church gatherings were positive and powerful!

I plan to read through the journal and pick up the themes God repeated to us several times in the 23 hours. Not that one-time mentions aren’t important, but when God wants to get our attention, he will repeat himself several times until He gains our attentiveness. For instance, Samuel was learning to hear the voice of God, and it took four tries. Finally, with the help of his spiritual father, Samuel realized that God was speaking to him, and therefore positioned himself to hear.  There’s more to come in what God spoke in our 23 hours.

I received positive feedback from the First Fruits message. One comment included, “I’ve never heard a message on first fruits before and I’ve grown up in the church.” Another said, “thank you for the message being so positive and freeing, my association with messages on first fruits was negative and controlling.  Someone else said, “That was the clearest presentation I’ve ever heard you give on First Fruits.” May God be praised! As I mentioned Sunday, February 19th will be the day I make a declaration over anyone who is participating in First Fruits this year. If you haven’t already, you can start bringing First Fruits in or bring it with you that Sunday!

Finally, the family meeting was the most attended - ever - and the most life-giving that I’ve been in since the beginning of Crossroads. Over 80 people gathered and the mood was one of laughter, engagement, and surprises! The worship team awarded Keith a generous gift certificate to Guitar Center for his retirement from the Worship Team. Lisha, Nick, and Rachel gave phenomenal reports and exciting plans for the new year. Billy made an exhilarating presentation of the 2023 budget; although a “numbers” guy, he made it understandable for all. The congregation then stood in affirmation of this year’s budget. We then installed Lou DiPaolo as an elder and affirmed him and Tracey onto the Team. In a Crossroad elder’s tradition, we presented Lou with a sword. The last item was explaining our doctrine of governmental elders. We have traditionally named men as elders and invited the wives to serve as influencers on the Team. I brought a biblical approach to expanding that view to include inviting women to serve as governmental elders alongside the men. We call it side-by-side governing. I provided a handout for those attending that outlined the biblical precedent. If interested, contact the office and Chris can forward you an email copy.

Where to next? Since February includes Valentine’s Day AND our Marriage Investment on February 18, I plan to bring messages from the theme, “Loving Well.”  I’ll be using I Corinthian 13 as a home base.
