Your Guide to What's Happening at Crossroads

Pray Without Ceasing

Pray Without Ceasing

Sounds tiring, doesn’t it? Not really if you think that praying continually keeps you closer to God, attached to his will, and with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in our lives, praying continually sounds pretty exciting. As Paul reminds the believers in I Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing!” What does that direction actually look like?

I would suggest having a constant awareness that God is always around and always available to speak into any given situation we encounter. Our own flesh is the biggest enemy toward being in constant awareness of God’s presence and available help. We get impatient for answers so we take matters into our own hands, or we think we know what’s best without inviting God to guide us through our day.

Someone who made that costly mistake was King Saul. He desperately needed an answer but instead of waiting for the priest to come and consult God in the prescribed way, he opted to offer the sacrifice himself. This impatience heavily backfired on him as God then decided to strip him of his kingship and place David as the next King over Israel (I Samuel 13:5-14). Operating from our flesh can be a powerful deterrent in living a spirit-directed life. Obviously, God works through our faculties, but he does so because we have decided his input in our lives will be the best for us and others.

I still struggle in my own life with this reality. Not that I’m sinning if I don’t consult God in everything, but staying in tune with him is a constant battle when we achieve certain abilities in which we are skilled. We can so easily go out on our own and it seems okay. One thing I’ve done to counter that mindset is purposely inviting God to speak into the routine things that I know how to do or easily handle. I find God often has new insights into old routines that keep things fresh! I encourage you to invite God to speak into your normal routines as well and see what he says. You may be surprised at the life he brings to old things. He has refreshed my ways of doing things time and time again.

This Sunday, we have water baptisms scheduled from the obedience action step of chapter one. If you are reading this message and have not been baptized, contact the church office so we can plan. Just last night I heard the testimony of someone who said that after they were baptized several things dramatically changed in their life. It was noticeable. Let us know ASAP!

The message will center around eating, which equates to reading the word of God. I’ve not yet settled on the title of the message, but one possibility could be “FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP”. Jesus said in Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
