Your Guide to What's Happening at Crossroads
Jumping Out of the Mainstream
Mark 6:30-32 - The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
Wanda and I looked at our calendars at the beginning of last month and concluded if we were going to get away for a week, it needed to be last week. So we took it! I recall being in a busy season and talking with someone who had just come off a two-week vacation. I jokingly asked, “How do I get one of those?” He laughed and said, “It’s easy, you just take it!” Therefore, Wanda stepped on the “gas” and finished up her next book, and then Sunday afternoon we headed to Niagara Falls, NY.
After spending Monday around the falls, we took off for the Adirondack mountains, expecting to pass through and go into Vermont and even into Maine. We, however, enjoyed driving around the Adirondacks so much that we hardly left. Although we did pop into Vermont for a bit and tour a castle, most of the week we enjoyed driving, sightseeing, hiking, and touring places of interest as we traveled. This trip was sort of unlike us in that we had to reserve our overnight accommodations each day for the next. The weekend before Labor Day was challenging, but we navigated through it. All in all, it was an enjoyable week together, refreshing to just get away and see a part of the country we had not before.
After jumping out of the mainstream for a time, there was lots to do when we returned. Sunday seemed to go well. Chris’s message on “leveling up” was very timely. Billy Vanscoy joined our staff this week as Executive Pastor (Welcome Billy). Dani Harrison, who was assisting in administration has taken a full-time position outside of Crossroads starting this week. We will miss her value-added skills around the office but wish her well in her next job.
I’m ready to jump back into the mainstream!!! This Sunday we begin our seven-week journey into Living a Changed Life. The background for assembling these seven lessons come from many years of looking for discipleship material. Larry Kreider from DOVE would often say, use other people’s material and then eventually write your own. I guess I reached that point. I wanted a series of lessons that would ground new believers in the most important aspects of what they have in salvation and then what’s needed to continue in the faith and grow deeper in their relationship with both Jesus and the Body of Christ.
The closest discipleship program I connected with before writing mine was written by a Chinese man. His discipleship training was called T4T which stands for Training for Trainers based on II Timothy 2:2. The thrust of his material is the expectation that those you are training will train others in what they are learning. In fact, in his view, it is a mandate to train someone else. While I would not go that far, these seven lessons are meant to be journeyed through with a mentor, and after that, the mentee finds someone else to take through. This present book is the second generation.
There is still time to engage. Don’t let the lateness of the hour keep you from jumping into the mainstream! We’re asking for a $5 donation per book. Let one of the staff know if that cost is a hardship. If you’re not in a group, then gather two, three, or four people together and commit to a journey for seven weeks. Even one-on-one would be great. Again, remember, it’s not just for you, but so that you can lead someone else through. The next seven weeks is an ALL CHURCH equipping to get ready for the harvest God is going to bring us in the future. Let’s get ready and jump in! See you Sunday.
Hey there! Pastor Lisha Stowe, here, just jumping in to let you know about a family resource that I have been working on. The Lord recently prompted me to write a kid’s companion guide to Pastor Bobby’s book Living a Changed Life. After all, kids need discipleship too! This guide is called A Kid’s Guide to Spiritual Life. It’s written for ages 6-12 and meant for parents to go through as a devotional/study with their kids during the next 7 weeks. Older kids can also do it independently. The topics covered parallel those in Pastor Bobby’s book but from a kid’s point of view. At the end of each lesson there is a fun challenge for kids to do and a place that they and their parents can sign off that it has been completed. Parents can message me when a lesson is complete and their child can get a prize for each one. The guides will be ready this Sunday, so take advantage of this opportunity to disciple and connect with your child (or children) and invest in their spiritual life! Blessings!

Doctors are now saying they want to amputate her because they cannot repair the foot for her to ever walk again. She is also married to another woman who works at our school. I’ve been praying for her and telling others to pray. I just feel like God wants to move in this situation to express his love to her and deal with her lost identity. Pray for healing, but also for God to move deeply in her heart & her partner’s heart to show them their true identities as daughters of the King!
Tammy C. – Praise God, my mom’s surgery went great she is healing nicely, and her pathology report came back benign! Yay God! Thank you for your prayers!
