How Far Does Jesus’ Lordship Reach?
This week I finish up the series on Resurrection Realities and so far I’ve covered the new creation, reinterpretation of the Old Testament scriptures, the new Exodus, and finally this coming Sunday, Jesus is Lord of the whole world. Or is He? There’s no question the Jews were anticipating a Savior. He finally came into the world, was born through a virgin, and grew up in a normal Jewish family. At age 30 he was baptized both in water and the Holy Spirit. After 40 days of wilderness temptations, he came out in the power of the spirit with a radical message and distinct connection saying, “God was his Father”. Jesus checked all the Old Testament boxes of being the long-awaited Messiah. Then the unthinkable took place. Those who believed he was the Messiah watched him being crucified for the supposed blasphemy of saying that God was his father and he was the Messiah. Then the unimaginable happened. After three days, Jesus was raised from the dead and never died again. He then ascended into heaven before their very eyes, making the claim he would return in the very same manner in which he went. He claimed in going back to heaven he would sit at the right hand of his Father’s throne. Here’s the question: Is Jesus just the messiah of the Jews, or has he become Lord of the world? After Pentecost, Peter explains, “Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). Later, in Cornelius’s house, Peter declared that Jesus is “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36). Romans 10:9 links Jesus’ lordship to His resurrection: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Jesus declares in Matthew 28:18 he has been given “all authority in heaven and on earth.” Finally, in Revelations 17:14 Jesus is identified as “Lord of lords.” We find in these verses that Jesus was first associated with being a Jewish Messiah but after the resurrection, he was promoted to being the Lord and Savior of the world (Philippians 2:8-11). This upcoming Sunday I plan to consider the following questions: “Since Jesus is Lord of the world, what is his intent to be Lord over?” Another question to consider is: “Since Jesus said he has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, why don’t our prayers work every time if we pray in Jesus's name?” And finally, “What does it actually mean for us to say, Jesus is Lord of my life?” These are just a few important questions I plan to address Sunday. See you Sunday, enjoy the Apple Blossom if you are in or around Winchester! |

God is at Work!
Marty shares how God worked out a whole series of events that allowed him to: deliver barrels to Philadelphia - destined for Haiti, dropping off Denis A. and his wife in Newark NJ, and at the same time, he was able to look at a boat in New Jersey! God granted traveling safety to everything all on the same day. The best part is that when he delivered the barrels to the shipping company, they discounted the shipping price by $250! What an amazing honor to be used by God to accomplish so much in one day. To God be the glory for all the good he has done. For more infomation visit:
