Serving in Love
This past Sunday I had the opportunity to share about how God actually created us to serve and that by serving we find purpose and fulfillment in life. We discussed that when we serve others, we are in actuality serving God and bringing glory to his name. If you were not able to join us, I will include a link to Sunday’s message at the end of this article. As I concluded, I challenged everyone to examine the “why”, “how”, and “when” of serving in your life and I hope that you will take some time to do so this week. Christ made room to serve people on a daily basis. Whether He was feeding the hungry, healing the sick, or teaching the multitudes, he always demonstrated the compassion of the Father to others. Even when it meant stopping what He was doing to listen and help them in their time of need. Another way He served people was that He took the time to listen and He never dismissed a person because of their reputation, ethnicity, or gender. Today, I want us to highlight various ways that we can purpose to let our light shine by serving others. I also want to point out that serving others doesn’t have to be a grand affair. It can be simple! Here are 10 ways that we can demonstrate Christ’s love through a simple act of kindness: 1. Simple acts of Kindness - Open the door for someone, wave at your neighbor, thank the mail carrier, or smile at a stranger. You get the idea! None of these things are difficult but can make a big difference in someone’s life. 2. Practice being an encourager - Leave an encouraging note for a teacher, friend, or coworker. Leave a positive online review for one of your favorite restaurants, coffee shop, store, etc. (Five-star ratings can make someone’s day!) 3. Put someone else before yourself - A simple gesture of putting someone else first can go a really long way to brighten someone’s day. One simple way we can do this it to allow someone to pull in front of you when driving. 4. Donate Items or your time to a homeless shelter – Look for opportunities to donate your resources and time to help those that have hit rock bottom and are struggling to turn their life around. 5. Plan to serve or simply serve where needed – Like Jesus, we need to make room in our schedules to serve. We do this by volunteering and being faithful to show up when were supposed to. Another way we do this is by allowing our schedules to be interrupted and simply serving when needed. (See a need meet a need). 6. Listen – Never underestimate the power of a listening ear. Let someone know that you have heard them and value what they are saying. 7. Pay it forward– Make a difference in someone’s life by paying for their coffee or meal, or dropping off a special treat to a friend. Be creative and proactively bless someone. 8. Be a cheerleader for someone else - Help someone else shine by celebrating what they have accomplished and encourage them to continue their efforts. 9. Intentionally pray with someone – When someone shares a prayer request or a need with you do not simply say “I will be praying for you.” Take the time right then and there to pray with them. 10. Brighten someone’s day – Go out of your way to help someone or encourage someone who is hurting or struggling. I pray that you have a blessed week as you discover creative ways to serve through simple acts of kindness. This Sunday, Ron Myer will be our guest speaker. He always brings a thought-provoking and timely message that you will not want to miss. I hope to see you there! For more infomation visit:
