Your Guide to What's Happening at Crossroads

Becoming Critical Thinkers in a Culture of Critics

Becoming Critical Thinkers in a Culture of Critics

We have been in a culture war for many years. Our spiritual adversary has been unrelenting in fueling anti-god messaging through all sectors of society – for decades. In recent years, we’ve faced a mounting war on information and getting access to truth. We are bombarded from all sides with arguments, debates, half-truths, and outright lies about life, values, and what truly matters.

As Jesus followers who have access to the Spirit of Truth, we should have the leverage in this war. We should be able to cut through all the lies and deception to declare what is good, right, and worthy of our time and attention. Unfortunately, we’ve become limited in our ability to perceive things rightly because of our own struggles to judge rightly and discern right from wrong. The issues have become so controversial, we’ve been afraid, or unprepared, to give an answer for our Kingdom cause.

We’ve seen the world’s way of dealing with issues by criticizing, backbiting, and blacklisting. If we’re not careful, we can become just like them and become overly critical of anyone who doesn’t think like us. So, the question is – how do we set ourselves apart? How do we demonstrate to the world that we have the Spirit within who can show us the way through these issues with wisdom, clarity, and purpose? How can we judge rightly in order to separate the true from the false?

This coming Sunday, I’m going to share a message, “Becoming Critical Thinkers in a Culture of Critics.” The word “critical” can actually mean “one who expresses a reasoned opinion on any matter, especially involving a judgment of its value truth, righteousness, beauty or technique.” I believe we can speak to our culture in a way that shows God’s redemptive purposes – even concerning the hot button issues of the day. But unlike the critics who only share opinions, we can share the truth of God’s Word. Kingdom thinkers are critical to the ongoing debates if we are to bring people into the light.

A world full of critics only stirs up unbelief and the Lord is looking for faith-filled believers who testify to something eternal and lasting. What we believe – and how we express it – has great power and authority to change things. I look forward to sharing more on Sunday.

Pastor Bobby will be preaching at Winchester Bible Church this Sunday. Next Sunday, March 5th, the message will summarize our 23 hours of prayer.
